Title: The Golden Lily
Author: Richelle Mead
Series: Bloodlines #2

Synopsis:
Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. Alchemists protect vampire secrets – and human lives.

Sydney would love to go to college, but instead, she’s been sent into hiding at a posh boarding school in Palm Springs, California – tasked with protecting Moroi princess Jill Dragomir from assassins who want to throw the Moroi court into civil war. Formorly in disgrace, Sydney is now praised for her loyalty and obedience, and held up as the model of an exemplary Alchemist.

But the closer she grows to Jill, Eddie, and especially Adrian, the more she finds herself questioning her age-old Alchemist beliefs, her idea of family, and her sense of what it means to truly belong. Her world becomes even more complicated when magical experiments show Sydney may hold the key to prevent becoming Strigoi – the fiercest vampires, the ones who don’t die. But it’s her fear of being just that – special, magical, powerful – that scares her more than anything. Equally daunting is her new romance with Braydon, a cute, brainy guy who seems to be her match in every way. Yet, as perfect as he seems, Sydney finds herself being drawn to someone else – someone forbidden to her.

When a shocking secret threatens to tear the vampire world apart, Sydney’s loyalties are suddenly tested more than ever before. She wonders how she’s supposed to strike a balance between the principles and dogmas she’s been taught, and what her instincts are now telling her.

Should she trust the Alchemists – or her heart?

Reading Recs: Favorite Forbidden Romances

Forbidden Romances are one of my all-time favorite tropes. I don’t know what the “official” definition of a Forbidden Romance is (or if there even is one – I’m too lazy to look it up), but I consider any book in which the main character’s love interest is someone that he or she should not be involved with for any given reason.

The books I’m listing below are a few of my favorites in this category. They’re filled with the longing, intensity, and excitement you’d expect from forbidden love stories.

The genres run the gamut: contemporary romance, fantasy, dark romance, paranormal romance… everything from age gaps to body guards to dueling mystical creatures to supernatural interspecies to teachers and students to religion … it’s quite the mix!

So, without further ado…

Things I Thought I Hated in Romance Novels (And the Books That Proved Me Wrong)

I’ve seen these questions asked many times in the book blogging community:

What do you hate in romance novels?
What tropes can’t you stand?
What are your romance novel pet peeves?

I used to have several definitive answers to this question, but slowly, as I’ve read more and more romance novels, I’ve come across so many books that have proven me so very, very wrong.

Now, whenever this question comes up, I struggle.

I struggle because even though there are many books that get these things wrong, there are still those few who get them right and part of me feels like I’d be betraying those great books if I listed those pet peeves. I know, it’s silly, but for those of you who view reading books as time spent with close friends will understand where I’m coming from.

And even if I haven’t come across a book that defies me yet, I know that one may exist – I just haven’t read it yet.

Honestly, I think this mindset could go for any genre of books. I mean, if the story is good enough? The things you think you hate can easily turn into the things you love … if done right.

Here is a list of my romance novel pet peeves… and the books that proved me wrong:

Favorite YA Series {Part One}

This week has been the perfect week to curl up with a book by the window and read all day. It’s been raining nonstop and it doesn’t look like it’ll subside any time soon.

Unfortunately, I have to work all week, but luckily I have a gorgeous view of the lake in my office, so at least I can enjoy that much.

Today I’m recommending my favorite young adult series. These recommendations are those that I’ve read at least two of the books in the series. There are several series in which I’ve only read one book that I love so far, but I’ll wait to recommend those series once I’ve read at least one more book.

I’m more of a new adult/contemporary romance reader, so my YA favorites aren’t vast, however, I do love a great YA series every now and then.

My reason for this post is two-fold: First, I’m recommending every series listed here and second, I’d love it if you could recommend YA series that you’d think I’d like based on these.

Romance Novels that Made Me Laugh Out Loud

While it’s not rare for me to squeal or sigh or groan while reading a book, it’s a bit more unusual for me to laugh out loud while reading.

When thinking about the theme of my book recommendations for this month, I decided to focus on the rare books that have made me burst out laughing while reading. The books that had my husband looking over at me as we lay in bed at night with a raised eyebrow and a shake of the head.

Here are the romance novels that gave me the giggles

Wrong by Jana Aston

26224667
Oh my gosh, I made so many noises while reading this book, laughing was just one part of it.

Pucked by Helena Hunting

24504274
Violet accidentally yelling, “I LOVE YOU!” while having sex with Alex for only the second time and tacking on, “MONSTER C*CK!” at the end to cover up her mistake had me bursting out laughing.

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

25883848
When Lucy tries to walk in all smooth into work and ends up tripping and dropping her lunch box in front of Josh… classic.

Ball Peen Hammer by Lauren Rowe

Keane is so ridiculous, you can’t help but roll your eyes at him, laugh at him, and love him all at once.

From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata

The. Insults. MZ outdid herself with the snark in this one! So funny!

Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead

Georgina’s demon boss takes the human form of John Cusack, but refuses to admit that he knows who John Cusack is. That’s just an example of the absurd hilarity in this series.

Undead Series by MaryJanice Davidson

421129
To be honest, I didn’t finish this series, but oh my goodness, the books I did read in this series seriously had me bent over with the giggles!
Goodreads | Amazon

A Little Night Magic by Lucy March

I’ve mentioned that this book is one of my favorites and I find it so underhyped and underrated. It’s such a sweet story, but the funny parts in this had me dying.

Book Haul: February 2018

I would like everyone to take a moment and notice that I, shockingly, did not download 8 million free Kindle ebooks this month.

Thank you, thank you. I know. First time for everything.

Of course, I fully balanced that out by spending money on a bunch of audiobooks.

In my defense, Audible had a sale and I cannot be held responsible.

Anyway, here is my February Book Haul!
