3-Day Lyrical Challenge: Day 1

Hey there fellow book lovers! I hope the new year is treating you well so far. It’s been lovely for me the past few days.

I was tagged in this challenge by three of my all-time favorite bloggers: Thrice Read, Discerning Couch Potato, and Whit Reads Lit. Thank you my lovely friends!

(PS – it was through this tag that I found out Whitney from Whit Reads Lit is an insanely talented musician! Go check out her music!)

The Rules

  • Thank the person who nominated you.
  • Share one of your favorite songs/lyrics one at a time for three days.
  • Nominate three other bloggers each day.

I’m a huge fan of great lyrics in songs, so narrowing it down to three is going to be incredibly hard for me!

I decided to break this challenge up into three different types of songs:

  1. Day One: Love song lyrics
  2. Day Two: Inspirational song lyrics
  3. Day Three: Breakup song lyrics

I’m not brave enough to say these are my favorite love song lyrics, but they are most certainly up there… definitely Top 3.

Not only is this one of my all-time favorite love songs, but it’s sung by one of my all-time favorite singer/songwriters and I love the song as a whole.

I think it’s gorgeous and soothing and the wordplay in the lyrics are so poetic. I bow down to Jason Mraz’s lyrical abilities. I love when writers do this whether it’s in poetry, lyrics, or prose.

I present to you…

Sleeping to Dream by Jason Mraz

I’m dreaming of sleeping next to you
I’m feeling like a lost little boy in a brand new town
I’m counting my sheep and
each one that passes is another dream to ashes
and they all fall down
And as I lay me down tonight
I close my eyes, what a beautiful sight
I’m sleeping to dream about you
I’m so damn tired of having to live without you
But I, I don’t mind
I’m sleeping to dream about you, I’m so tired
Oh, yes I am
I found myself in the riches your eyes, your lips, your hair
you were everywhere, out there
But I woke up in the ditches
I hit the light and I thought you might be here
but you were nowhere
Oh, love, you were nowhere at home
And as I lay me back to sleep
This love I pray that I can keep
Sleeping to dream about you
I’m so damn tired of having to live without you
But I, I don’t mind
I’m sleeping to dream about you, I’m so tired
This is just a little a lullaby to keep myself from crying myself a little lullaby to keep, keep my eyes from always crying, this is just a little lullaby, I’m trying to keep myself from falling asleep, sleep. It’s just a little lullaby so I don’t cry myself to sleep at night
Sleeping to dream about you
I’m so damn tired of having to live without you
But I, I don’t mind
I’m sleeping to dream about you, I’m so tired
I’m so tired

Tag, You’re It!

I know I’m late to the game on this one, so feel free to skip if you’ve already done it or don’t feel like it.
