Title: Shifters Series
Author: Rachel Vincent
Format: Hard copies purchased from Barnes & Noble
Synopsis:
There are only eight breeding female werecats left…
And I’m one of them.
I look like an all-American grad student. But I am a werecat, a shape-shifter, and I live in two worlds.
Despite reservations from my family and my Pride, I escaped the pressure to continue my species and carved out a normal life for myself. Until the night a Stray attacked.
I’d been warned about Strays — werecats without a Pride, constantly on the lookout for someone like me: attractive, female, and fertile. I fought him off, but then learned two of my fellow tabbies had disappeared.
This brush with danger was all my Pride needed to summon me back… for my own protection. Yeah, right. But I’m no meek kitty. I’ll take on whatever — and whoever — I have to in order to find my friends. Watch out, Strays — ’cause I got claws, and I’m not afraid to use them…
Review
During a semi-recent book slump that flung me into a massive re-read sesh, I decided it was about that time in my life to re-read the entire Shifters series… and I was given life once again.
It’s been a good 5-7 years since I re-read this series. That’s right. Re-read.
Because after I read this series the first time (about 10 years ago or so), I immediately re-read it over and over again for a good year before finally giving it a rest.
Sometimes when you go back and read a series or book that you loved, you realize that it wasn’t quite as good as you remembered it to be.
That is not the case with this series.
In fact, it was an Old Reliable – a series that I knew would give me the warm and fuzzies, not to mention butterflies.
I’d nearly forgotten how much I loved some of the epic one-liners that gut-punched you. I’d forgotten the tragedy, the humor, the suspense, the cringey moments, and the moments that make you want to strangle certain characters.
One thing that did change a bit this time around was how I felt about our main character, Faythe.
When I first read this book, I was Faythe’s age and I remembered absolutely loving her defiant attitude. Now that I’m older, I found her to be much more immature. It was ALMOST annoying, but not quite. Because, given her age, it was entirely understandable.
This series kept my heart rate up and my stomach tied in knots, even though I knew what was going to happen.
Reading it for the first time? I almost couldn’t handle it!
Oh, to be able to read your favorite books for the first time all over again, amirite?
Anyway, I think this series is incredibly underrated and definitely is worth reading if you haven’t already! (Fair warning – there is a love triangle in this book, but it is done very well!)
Audiobook Performance: 3 stars
I’ve both read the hard copies and have listened to the audiobooks for this series. While the performance is fantastic, these audiobooks are a classic case of The Reader is Way too Old Sounding to Be the Voice Actor for a New Adult. It was almost distracting, but the story is so good, I could look past it.
Butterfly Rating: 5 Stars
Seriously… so many butterflies.
Re-read Worthiness: Hell yea!
Bookshelf Placement: Already enshrined on my shelves
Book Boyfriend Rating: 5 stars
OMG… YES! He’s very high on my all time favorite book boyfriend list!
I read most of her Soul Screamers series a few years ago, and I really enjoyed it. Didn’t know anything about this series. Sounds like something I might enjoy. Nice review!

I actually liked this series a bit more than her Soul Screamers series. I read that one a while ago, too. If I remember correctly that series is YA and this one is New Adult. She did a great job with both.
