TeaChat: All the Birthdays

For those of you who are new around here, TeaChats are a monthly post that I do in which I pretend that you and I are going out and grabbing a cup of tea (or coffee or wine) and we’re chatting about what we’ve been up to lately.

Let’s chat!

August. Was. Insane.

Both of my girls and my husband have birthdays in August, so between that and school starting… it’s been a bit crazy around here.

Just this past weekend consisted of two parties (one for my husband and one for Labor Day.) My house needs a major deep clean.

School has been … interesting … so far for the girls. My oldest is an absolute angel – her teachers compliment her behavior all the time. Meanwhile, my youngest lives up to her nickname The Red Rage (she has red hair lol). She ended up in the principal’s office once and the guidance counselor’s office once over the past couple of weeks. Oy. It’s a total case of nature vs. nurture because I raised those kids exactly the same way and they are complete opposites!

Anyway… onward to the usual TeaChat updates:

At Present I Am…

I’m rereading Stray by Rachel Vincent and slowly getting through Man Hands by Sarina Bowen.

I’ve been super into watching those What I Eat in a Day videos, particularly those that showcase healthy eating habits. It helps give me ideas and motivate me!

My favorites are those from Health Nut Nutrition. There are many versions of “healthy” eating, and hers is the type I agree with the most. (Whole, real, foods, limited sugar intake, balanced meals, limited processed foods.)

My mixed bean salsa recipe was a hit at the parties last weekend. It’s super easy to make, filling, and pretty healthy! Pair it with Tostitos MultiGrain Baked Scoops!

2 cans shoe peg corn
1 can black beans
1 can cannelloni
2 cans hominy (1 white, 1 yellow)
1 can black eyed peas
1 can baby/small/early peas
½ red bell pepper chopped
½ orange bell pepper chopped
3 scallions chopped
1 16 oz bottle of Wishbone Italian (do NOT substitute another brand!)

Rinse all beans/peas/corn, mix in a large bowl and let sit in fridge at least over night.

Listening to

I am so obsessed with the song 2002 by Anne-Marie. The girls love it, too. They sing-a-long… particularly the oooo-oooo part. LOL!

Obsessing over

The fact that my best friend bought me and our other best friend FRONT ROW TICKETS TO SEE DEAR EVAN HANSEN! Our plan is to rent a limo, grab dinner at a nice restaurant downtown and go see the show! It isn’t until April and I have no idea how I’ll be able to wait that long!

What’s Next

I’m training for a 10K with my Dad. I should’ve been training since last month, but I actually didn’t realize it was happening until a couple days ago LOL! We signed up for the 10K last year, but it got canceled because of a hurricane, so our registration transferred over to this year. I quickly looked up a training plan and had to shave off the first half of it and jump in now! Fingers crossed that my knee cooperates!

I have book club this weekend and I absolutely LOVED the book! There is so much to talk about and I can’t wait!

My girls have about a million and a half birthday parties to go to… oy it’s exhausting.

The library book sale near my mom’s house is at the end of this month and I am SO READY to spend my life there and buy ALL THE BOOKS!

I’m ready for September! Let’s do this!

Tell me… what have you been up to lately? What’s up next?

  2. OMG, I am loving 2002 too! I’d never seen the video before. I love it!

You are going to have SO MUCH fun at Dear Evan Hansen! I’d wish it was April for you so you wouldn’t have to wait so long, but that means I would’ve missed some pretty cool stuff myself…. Like Hamilton and my wedding! LOL

    1. 2002 has been stuck in my head all week and I’m pretty sure my coworker is going to murder me if I don’t stop singing it all day long.

I can’t WAIT for DEH and to hear about your Hamilton experience! And also LOL @ missing your wedding because of fast forwarding. Typically I’m begging time to SLOW DOWN. I feel like I just need a Life Remote so I can rewind and skip parts, amirite?
