Synopsis:
SHE’S GOT CURB APPEAL

Rian Sutter grew up with the finer things in life. Spending summers in The Hamptons was a normal occurrence for her until her parents lost everything years ago. Now Rian and her sister are getting their life, and finances, back on track through real estate. Not only do they buy and sell houses to the rich and famous, but they finally have the capital to flip their very own beachfront property. But when she inadvertently catches the attention of a sexy stranger who snaps up every house from under her, all bets are off…

HE’S A FIXER UPPER

Pierce Whitfield doesn’t normally demo kitchens, install dry wall, or tear apart a beautiful woman’s dreams. He’s just a down-on-his-luck lawyer who needed a break from the city and agreed to help his brother work on a few homes in the Hamptons. When he first meets Rian, the attraction is undeniable. But when they start competing for the same pieces of prime real estate, the early sparks turn into full-blown fireworks. Can these passionate rivals turn up the heat on their budding romance — without burning down the house?

GOODREADS

Review

Despite being a huge Helena Hunting fan, I wasn’t too excited about this novel. I’m not sure why. I mean, I’m a huge fan of HGTV and romance, so you’d think the combo would be perfect for me, but it seemed… I don’t know… cheesy I guess. Likely because of the title.

But between a reading a few excerpts, hearing Helena talking about the novel, and the fact that I realized it was part of the Shacking Up series (which I love), I decided I had to read it.

I’m glad I did.

This was a sweet, lighthearted novel that I’ve come to expect from HH.

This was slow to impress me, though, which is rare for HH’s work. I typically love her books right from the beginning, but at first Pierce seemed like an incredibly generic hero. Rich, cocky, kind of a jerk, ridiculously good-looking.

I liked Rian and her sister, but I also didn’t love them.

I’m glad I stuck with it, though, because Pierce turned out to be a really great character. Despite coming off as your stereotypical cocky book boyfriend, I loved that he has all the traits except he’s a relationship guy. He doesn’t do one-night-stands, and that tiny unique quality is what changed everything for me.

This is the perfect summer beach read, too, as it takes place in the Hamptons on the beach.

There is nothing groundbreaking about this novel, but it’s a fun read and if you already enjoy her Shacking Up series, you’ll love diving into this world again.

Audiobook Performance: 5 stars

5-stars
Rose Dioro and Jacob Morgan are two of my all-time favorite audiobook narrators.

Butterfly Rating: 1 Star

1-star
Very few butterflies in this one. The chemistry between Rian and Pierce wasn’t as intense for me as most of HH’s characters tend to be.

Re-read Worthiness: No

I likely won’t reread this one.

Bookshelf Placement: Yes

I’d like the entire series on my bookshelf!

Book Boyfriend Rating: 5 stars

5-stars
Like I mentioned earlier, I really like Pierce. I like that he has all the qualities of a cocky book boyfriend, except that he’s monogamous and doesn’t sleep around. He’s also so thoughtful and sweet.
