This week has been the perfect week to curl up with a book by the window and read all day. It’s been raining nonstop and it doesn’t look like it’ll subside any time soon.
Unfortunately, I have to work all week, but luckily I have a gorgeous view of the lake in my office, so at least I can enjoy that much.
Today I’m recommending my favorite young adult series. These recommendations are those that I’ve read at least two of the books in the series. There are several series in which I’ve only read one book that I love so far, but I’ll wait to recommend those series once I’ve read at least one more book.
I’m more of a new adult/contemporary romance reader, so my YA favorites aren’t vast, however, I do love a great YA series every now and then.
My reason for this post is two-fold: First, I’m recommending every series listed here and second, I’d love it if you could recommend YA series that you’d think I’d like based on these.
Favorite Young Adult Series (Part One)
A Court of Thorns and Roses Series by Sarah J Maas
I mean, this shouldn’t really be a surprise, honestly. If you’ve been following my blog for any length of time, you know my obsession with it.
This series follows Feyre Acheron through a fantastical journey as she finds herself in Fae territory. This is a story of epic friendships, fierce magic, and breathtaking love. And I mean breathtaking. Take a few deep breaths before you dive in (particularly the second book) because you likely won’t breathe again until you’ve read the last page.
Keep in mind, these books are listed as Young Adult, but I, personally, would say that they are much more geared toward older teens/new adults.
Favorite book in the series: A Court of Mist and Fury /Book 2/
Anna and the French Kiss Series by Stephanie Perkins
I knew that I would love this series before I even began reading it.
This series follows a group of friends who each have their own sweet stories of love and discovery (as most YA novels do). It begins with Anna’s story as she travels to France for boarding school.
Favorite Book in the series: Isla and the Happily Ever After /Book 3/
Daughter of Smoke and Bone Series by Laini Taylor
I read the first book in this series so long ago, I don’t even remember why I picked it up, but I’m glad I did. Confession: I’ve only read the first two in this series, but I have to take Laini Taylor books in small doses because they are packed full of so much greatness, I can only handle a little bit at a time!
Laini Taylor is a gorgeous storyteller. This unique story follows Karou’s self-discovery and forbidden love in a world where heavenly beings are far from perfect and hellish creatures aren’t always to blame.
Favorite Book in the series: Daughter of Smoke and Bone /Book 1/
Fangirl/Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
Ok. I know. This isn’t a true series, but I consider it one. Let me explain.
Fangirl is Cath’s story. She is, you guessed it, a huge fangirl. She would much rather write fanfiction about a Harry-Potter-esque book series as opposed to going to parties like her sister. Carry On is actually Cath’s m/m fanfiction — and it’s absolutely amazing.
Favorite Book in the Series: Fangirl /Book 1/
Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J Maas
Much like ACOTAR, the Throne of Glass series will sweep you away and knock you completely off your axis. The side characters’ stories are just as interesting as the main characters.
Trained assassin Celaena Sardothien is carrying around huge secrets and an even bigger chip on her shoulder. She’s a smart-mouth, badass, who can backup all the sh*t she talks. But she’s been enslaved for years and she has a lot of work to do to get back to kicking a**. Her story is just as intense as she is, with a whole lot of twists and turns.
Favorite Book in the Series: Queen of Shadows /Book 4/
The Other Plane Series by Kelsey Sutton
I’ve never read anything quite like this series. Kelsey Sutton’s voice is as unique as her these stories.
What if you couldn’t feel emotions? What if you saw them instead? In The Other Plane, feelings are personified and Fear is the most beautiful of them all.
Favorite Book in the Series: Some Quiet Place /Book 1/
Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead
I can’t even count how many times I’ve read this series. I could probably recite chapters out of each of these books. As lame as the title is, the books are so good.
In Rose’s world, Moroi need to be protected at all costs. And the last Moroi Dragomir princess who also happens to be her best friend? Even moreso. Good thing Rose is the best Dhampir student that St. Vladimir’s Academy has ever seen. Now if only she could stay out of trouble and curb this crush she has on her teacher.
Favorite Book in the Series: Shadow Kiss /Book 3/
The Looking Glass Wars Series by Frank Beddor
I was blown away by this Alice in Wonderland retelling. It was the first retelling I’ve ever read and few others have compared to how unique this story is.
In this Wonderland, The Mad Hatter goes by Hatter Madigan and he’s a badass Royal Bodyguard fighting his way to Alyss Heart so that she can find her way back to her rightful place as Queen of Hearts. Unfortunately, they have to go through the current Queen of Hearts: Alyss’s aunt Redd.
Favorite Book in the Series: Seeing Redd /Book 2/
That’s all for now! I’ll be back in a few weeks with the second part of this round up!
Love this post! I love most of these series and have a couple on my TBR list. The Other Plane and last one you listed, I haven’t heard of! Sound so interesting though.

Great list! I’ve been meaning to read the Court series forever (and have determined I will read them this year) – it’s got so many raves that I’m worried it won’t live up to the hype though! Fangirl is my favorite of the Rowell duo too 🙂

It most definitely lived up to the hype for me, but like most hyped books, there are people who didn’t like the series at all (which baffles me, but to each their own!)
And YES! Fangirl was so, so great.

Thank you! ❤
You should listen to your sister! It's SO good. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. I read it over a decade ago, but it has stuck with me as one of the most interesting retellings I've ever read.

I agree with most of these (haven’t read a few, haha). One of my personal favorites is the LUX series by Jennifer L Armentrout.

I’ve actually really have been wanting to read that series since going to Apollycon last year!

I too loved Stephanie Perkins series! I think I remember you’ve read Jenny Han’s series “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” right? It’s also a great contemporary YA series!

YES! I love that series. I just haven’t read the last book yet. That series is actually going to be on the second part of this roundup! 😛

Ohh YES to so many of those!!! I love ACOTAR (even though I have yet to read book 3 + the novella) and those books have totally stolen my heart ♥ I also ADORE both Fangirl and Carry On, I actually reread the latter a few days ago! And Vampire Academy will always have a special place in my heart, I should reeeally reread the books too – it has been too long.

I love that we have so many favorites in common! It makes me so happy!
I need to do a reread of Carry On soon! I’ve only read it once. I may start with Fangirl and reread Carry on right after like I did the first time.
VA has such a warm place in my heart. I’ll never forget what it was like the first time I read it!

I enjoyed the Anna and the French Kiss series too! The books are all so adorable and funny. My favorite is Lola and the Boy Next Door (I mean how can you not fall for a guy named Cricket) followed by Isla and then Anna’s story.

Haha I loved that one, too. Isla’s book was my absolute favorite!
