Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.
Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure as hell never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.
One thing is for certain, being married to rock and roll’s favourite son is sure to be a wild ride.
Anytime I read a 3-star book, I always question myself.
It makes me wonder if maybe I’m not fully paying attention or if the timing was wrong… sometimes those things play a part, I’m sure.
For this particular book, it just didn’t do it for me and I don’t think it was timing.
Why do I know this?
Because immediately after finishing this book, I started on Lauren Rowe’s new book Misadventures of a College Girl and right from the beginning, it captured me and I can already tell I’m going to love it.
That’s because LR has the magical ability to give me complete buy-in with her characters.
But, back to Lick.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Trust by Kylie Scott.
I loved it from the beginning and I loved it to the end, so I went into Lick with high expectations.
This book started out with a lot of promise for me, but for some reason, it fell kind of flat.
No, not some reason.
I think the reason why it just didn’t work for me was because I didn’t buy into Evelyn and David despite rooting for them from page one. I guess maybe I felt like the two never really got to know each other very well. The relationship didn’t really make too much sense for me.
Maybe a big part of that had to do with the fact that Evelyn was telling the story and she couldn’t remember what happened to make them want to get married on a whim.
I wonder if I would’ve had more buy-in if there were flashbacks to their first meeting, because I feel like that is where the connection I never felt reading the story actually formed.
Anyway, Kyle Scott is a fantastic author, but this book was a miss for me. I get why a lot of people love this book and I actually really want to read the rest of the series.
Audiobook Performance: 5 stars
I love Andi Arndt. She’s one of my fav narrators. Pretty much anything she does is going to be a 5 star listen!
Butterfly Rating: 3 Stars
Re-read Worthiness: Maybe
We’ll see if I like the rest of the series.
Bookshelf Placement: Maybe
(same as above)
Book Boyfriend Rating: 2 stars
David was kind of immature to me. Don’t get me wrong, guys with any sort of musical talent are my kryptonite, however, he was kind of whiny. I feel like he needs to get his sh*t together a bit more.
