Pucked Off (Pucked #5) by Helena Hunting

[Audiobook Purchased from Audible]

I’m NHL defenseman Lance Romero, AKA Lance “Romance.”

I’m notorious for parties and excess. I have the most penalty minutes in the league. I get into the most fights. I take the most hits. I’m a player on and off the ice. I’m the one women with no inhibitions want.

Not because I like the notoriety, but because I don’t know how to be any other way.

I have secrets. Ones I shared with the wrong person, and she used them against me. Sometimes she still does. I should cut ties. But she makes it difficult, because she’s the kind of bad I deserve.

At least that’s what I believed until someone from my past gets caught up in my present. She’s all the good things in this world. She lights up my dark.

I shouldn’t want her.

But I do.

I should leave her alone.

But I won’t.

Synopsis from Goodreads

This book blindsided me with how good it was … and how different it was from the previous books.

While Pucked Off still had some of the humor, it was much darker than all of the previous novels. I was absolutely not expecting that considering who the main male character was in this book. Lance is the ultimate playboy and I think I expected him to be more irreverent and conceited, but Helena Hunting threw a total curveball with this book. It started off intense and I felt the echoes of it throughout the entire book.

Ultimately, like all the other books in this series, I adored our two main characters. In fact, if you can’t already tell, they were my absolute favorite of them all.

Also, seeing Violet and the gang from a different character’s point of view was really interesting and funny. All the other female characters in the books had connections to her and were somewhat used to her crazy, but Poppy has never met Violet and when she does, especially given Poppy’s personality… let’s just say she’s a little overwhelmed!

Anyway, this book was an emotional rollercoaster for me, and a very well done one at that. Helena Hunting definitely proved to me that she isn’t just amazing at romantic comedy, she can bring the drama and heartache, too!

Audiobook Performance: 5 Stars

Jacob. Morgan. Doing. A. Scottish. Accent. That’s all I have to say. And yelling. I just… I can’t you guys. I freaking can’t. Dude could read a phone book and I’d swoon, nevermind LANCE’S character in a SCOTTISH FREAKING ACCENT. GTFO.

Ok, no it isn’t because I also have to tell you how much I swooned over Rose Diorio so hard. Her voice was so perfect for Poppy and just perfect in general. Excuse me while I go stalk her and her audiobooks hardcore. #girlcrush

Butterfly Rating: 5 Stars

FIVE MILLION STARS. THIS ENTIRE BOOK AND ALL THE STAR RATINGS ARE 5 MILLION. I had so many swirly butterflies during this, it was almost unbearable.

Re-read Worthiness: Yes

I’ve re-read it about 4 times already. Don’t judge.

Bookshelf Placement: Yes

Heck to the yes!

Book Boyfriend Rating: 5 stars

No, but seriously. If it wasn’t a sign of instability (dating a fictional character), I’d be dating Lance.

  1. Couldn’t agree more, Bree! Lance has been my favorite hero in the Pucked series (and I love them all). I can’t wait to read Darren and Charlotte’s story!

But can we talk a minute about Jacob Morgan??? He also uses the name Zachary Webber… I would listen to him read the PHONE BOOK. But that Scottish accent? Whew girl! I was done!

    1. OMG I can’t wait until Charlotte and Darren, too! I’ve been so intrigued by them as a couple since Book One!

And JACOB FREAKING MORGAN/ZACHARY WEBBER… I 100% agree about that phone book.

The Scottish accent DID ME IN. And when he was YELLING in that Scottish accent? I couldn’t handle it. I had to hit pause and take a moment.
