American Queen (New Camelot Trilogy #1) by Sierra Simone
[Audiobook Purchased from Audible]
It starts with a stolen kiss under an English sky, and it ends with a walk down the aisle. It starts with the President sending his best friend to woo me on his behalf, and it ends with my heart split in two. It starts with buried secrets and dangerous desires…and ends with the three of us bound together with a hateful love sharper than any barbed wire.
My name is Greer Galloway, and I serve at the pleasure of the President of the United States.
This is the story of an American Queen.
I was not prepared. I should have been, since I read Priest and all, but… I was not prepared for this novel. Sierra Simone has done it again, she’s taken something taboo, something that could’ve gone very, very wrong… and made it fantastic all because she knows how to put pen to paper and tell a damn good story beautifully.
I’ve never been a huge fan of erotica, mostly because I’m a romance girl through-and-through and oftentimes great writing, storytelling, character-building, and romance tends to get sacrificed for ultra steam, but Sierra? Girlfriend knows how to pull all of that together and tie it up in a sexy bow. I’m thoroughly convinced of that after reading this book and Priest.
Full disclosure: I was really freaking worried when I read the synopsis that I would not be able to picture the president as anyone other than Donald Trump and I was certain I would not be able to make it through the book without making myself sick. Luckily, the president in this novel is absolutely nothing like him and I was able to completely suspend reality for this book.
Also, fun fact about me: I hate cliffhangers. HATE. THEM. And this book ends on a pretty epic cliffhanger. I believe the only saving grace for this particular peeve of mine in this book is the fact that the cliffhanger is almost an afterthought. It takes place at the end of the epilogue, not the last chapter, and the main (relationship) strings in the story have all been tied up.
I think that is the only reason why I’m not yelling and screaming and whining about this book right now.
For those romance-novel-loving people out there who want to dip their toe in some erotica, I highly recommend either this book or Priest by Sierra Simone. She may ruin you for all other erotica writers, but trust me. It’s worth it.
Audiobook Performance: 5 Stars
Oh. My. Gosh. I have a total girl crush on Stephanie Rose’s voice. BRB, starting a fan club for her…
Seriously, though, Stephanie did such a kickass job with this narration. She is easily in my Top 3 Favorite Audiobook Narrators list alongside Jennifer Ikeda and Jacob Morgan.
Butterfly Rating: 4 Stars
Pretty sure all the steam in this book boiled the butterflies, but there were still a few. Especially when it came to Embry and Greer’s interactions!
Re-read Worthiness: Yes
Oh heck yeah, I’ve already re-listened to parts of it 🙂
Bookshelf Placement: Yes
How gorgeous is that freaking cover? And so freaking fitting.
Book Boyfriend Rating: 4 & 5 stars
I’m giving Ash 4 stars and Embry gets 5 stars. While I do love Ash, I was much more drawn to Embry in this particular book.
