To Be Read ASAP List (July 2017)

tbr-asap

In putting together this list of books, I soon realized that this list is far too long for my comfort level. What I’m showing here is only a fraction of my full To Be Read As Soon As Possible list… which is only a fraction of my To Be Read list.

Le sigh.

In any case, most of these books I have not purchased yet. Books that make the cut on the particular list are books that have come highly recommended by multiple sources, are ARCs, or they are books written by authors who will be attending the Readers & Writers event in Tampa next month.

Popular on Goodreads

The books found in this section have recently been popular on my Goodreads feed and caught my eye because of several high reviews from friends who have similar taste in books as I do.

Damaged Like Us (Like Us, #1) by Krista Ritchie and Becca Ritchie

I’ve seen this all over my Goodreads feed with rave reviews. The premise sounds super interesting. I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

Goodreads | Amazon

damaged like usMaximoff Hale is a force of nature. A ship unwilling to be steered. Headstrong, resilient, and wholly responsible — the twenty-two-year-old alpha billionaire can handle his unconventional life. By noon, lunch can turn into a mob of screaming fans. By two, his face is all over the internet.

Born into one of the most famous families in the country, his celebrity status began at birth.

He is certified American royalty.

When he’s assigned a new 24/7 bodyguard, he comes face-to-face with the worst case scenario: being attached to the tattooed, MMA-trained, Yale graduate who’s known for “going rogue” in the security team — and who fills 1/3 of Maximoff’s sexual fantasies.

Twenty-seven-year-old Farrow Keene has one job: protect Maximoff Hale. Flirting, dating, and hot sex falls far, far out of the boundary of his bodyguard duties and into “termination” territory. But when feelings surface, protecting the sexy-as-sin, stubborn celebrity becomes increasingly complicated.

Together, boundaries blur, and being exposed could mean catastrophic consequences for both.

Beautiful Mistake by Vi Keeland

After recently finishing Bossman and hearing about this book, I definitely want to see if I will enjoy another Vi Keeland novel. While I didn’t love Bossman, I’m not ready to give up on Vi Keeland yet!

Goodreads | Amazon

beautiful mistakeThe first time I met Caine West was in a bar.
He noticed me looking his way and mistakenly read my scowling as checking him out.
When he attempted to talk to me, I set him straight—telling him what I thought of his lying, cheating, egomaniacal ass.
You see, the gorgeous jerk had wined and dined my best friend–smooth talking her into his bed, all along failing to mention that he was married.
He deserved every bit of my tongue-lashing and more for what he’d done.
Especially when that lazy smile graced his perfect face in response to my rant.
Only it turned out, the man I’d just told off wasn’t the right guy.
Oops. My mistake.
Embarrassed, I slunk out without an apology.
I was never going to see the handsome stranger again anyway, right?
That’s what I thought…until I walked into class the next morning.
Well, hello Professor West, I’m your new teaching assistant.
I’ll be working under you…figuratively speaking.
Although the literal interpretation might not be such a bad thing—working under Professor West.
This was going to be interesting…

Him (Him #1) by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy

This book was recommended to me by a few people. I also have a new appreciation for sports romance, so I’m pretty excited to pick this one up!

Goodreads | Amazon

HimJamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wise-cracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were eighteen? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

Ryan Wesley’s biggest regret is coaxing his very straight friend into a bet that pushed the boundaries of their relationship. Now, with their college teams set to face off at the national championship, he’ll finally get a chance to apologize. But all it takes is one look at his longtime crush, and the ache is stronger than ever.

Jamie has waited a long time for answers, but walks away with only more questions—can one night of sex ruin a friendship? If not, how about six more weeks of it? When Wesley turns up to coach alongside Jamie for one more hot summer at camp, Jamie has a few things to discover about his old friend… and a big one to learn about himself.

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

Though this isn’t something that I’ve been reaching for lately (I’m much more into contemporary adult romance as of late), this book has had so much hype, I’m super intrigued anyway.

Goodreads | Amazon

The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and VirtueHenry “Monty” Montague was born and bred to be a gentleman, but he was never one to be tamed. The finest boarding schools in England and the constant disapproval of his father haven’t been able to curb any of his roguish passions—not for gambling halls, late nights spent with a bottle of spirits, or waking up in the arms of women or men.

But as Monty embarks on his Grand Tour of Europe, his quest for a life filled with pleasure and vice is in danger of coming to an end. Not only does his father expect him to take over the family’s estate upon his return, but Monty is also nursing an impossible crush on his best friend and traveling companion, Percy.

Still it isn’t in Monty’s nature to give up. Even with his younger sister, Felicity, in tow, he vows to make this yearlong escapade one last hedonistic hurrah and flirt with Percy from Paris to Rome. But when one of Monty’s reckless decisions turns their trip abroad into a harrowing manhunt that spans across Europe, it calls into question everything he knows, including his relationship with the boy he adores.

Dear Aaron by Mariana Zapata

Gah! This needs to hurry up and come out on audio! All of my MZ books that I’ve read (and plan on reading) are on audio, so I don’t want to break tradition. However, if it doesn’t come out soon, I’m going to have to just grab the ebook. My friends have had mixed reactions to this book, but I have a feeling I’m going to love it.

Goodreads | Amazon

Dear AaronRuby Santos knew exactly what she was getting herself into when she signed up to write a soldier overseas.
The guidelines were simple: one letter or email a week for the length of his or her deployment. Care packages were optional.
Been there, done that. She thought she knew what to expect.
What she didn’t count on was falling in love with the guy.

Already Purchased

The books on this list are either sitting on my Kindle (in my TBR ASAP collection) or I have them in my Audible library.

Truth or Beard (Winston Brothers, #1) by Penny Reid

I’ve been dying to read this series forever. I fell in love with Neanderthal Seeks Human when I grabbed it for free on Kindle and when I saw this for free, I absolutely had to grab it. This is a pretty popular series among my fellow rom book friends.

Goodreads | Amazon

Truth or BeardBeards, brothers, and bikers! Oh my!

Identical twins Beau and Duane Winston might share the same devastatingly handsome face, but where Beau is outgoing and sociable, Duane is broody and reserved. This is why Jessica James, recent college graduate and perpetual level-headed good girl, has been in naïve and unhealthy infatuation with Beau Winston for most of her life.

His friendly smiles make her tongue-tied and weak-kneed, and she’s never been able to move beyond her childhood crush. Whereas Duane and Jessica have always been adversaries. She can’t stand him, and she’s pretty sure he can’t stand the sight of her…

But after a case of mistaken identity, Jessica finds herself in a massive confusion kerfuffle. Jessica James has spent her whole life paralyzed by the fantasy of Beau and her assumptions of Duane’s disdain; therefore she’s unprepared for the reality that is Duane’s insatiable interest, as well as his hot hands and hot mouth and hotter looks. Not helping Jessica’s muddled mind and good girl sensibilities, Duane seems to have gotten himself in trouble with the local biker gang, the Iron Order.

Certainly, Beau’s magic spell is broken. Yet when Jessica finds herself drawn to the man who was always her adversary, now more dangerous than ever, how much of her level-head heart is she willing to risk?

Paper Princess (The Royals, #1) by Erin Watt, Elle Kennedy, and Jen Frederick

This book has been popular, but with mixed reviews from what I’ve seen. Some people love it, some people hate it, so when I saw it on sale for under $5 on Audible, I figured I’d give it a shot.

Goodreads | Amazon

Paper PrincessFrom strip clubs and truck stops to southern coast mansions and prep schools, one girl tries to stay true to herself.

These Royals will ruin you…

Ella Harper is a survivor—a pragmatic optimist. She’s spent her whole life moving from town to town with her flighty mother, struggling to make ends meet and believing that someday she’ll climb out of the gutter. After her mother’s death, Ella is truly alone.

Until Callum Royal appears, plucking Ella out of poverty and tossing her into his posh mansion among his five sons who all hate her. Each Royal boy is more magnetic than the last, but none as captivating as Reed Royal, the boy who is determined to send her back to the slums she came from.

Reed doesn’t want her. He says she doesn’t belong with the Royals.

He might be right.

Wealth. Excess. Deception. It’s like nothing Ella has ever experienced, and if she’s going to survive her time in the Royal palace, she’ll need to learn to issue her own Royal decrees.

Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

I’ve been wanting to read this book since so many people have compared it to A Court of Mist and Fury. Being that ACOMAF is probably my favorite novel of all time, I’ll take it! This was on sale for under $5 on Audible recently as well, so I picked it up at the same time as Paper Princess.

Goodreads | Amazon

Howl's Moving CastleSophie has the great misfortune of being the eldest of three daughters, destined to fail miserably should she ever leave home to seek her fate. But when she unwittingly attracts the ire of the Witch of the Waste, Sophie finds herself under a horrid spell that transforms her into an old lady. Her only chance at breaking it lies in the ever-moving castle in the hills: the Wizard Howl’s castle. To untangle the enchantment, Sophie must handle the heartless Howl, strike a bargain with a fire demon, and meet the Witch of the Waste head-on. Along the way, she discovers that there’s far more to Howl—and herself—than first meets the eye.

Rhythm, Chord & Malykhin by Mariana Zapata

I think anyone who has read nearly any of my previous blog posts recently has an understanding of my current obsession with Mariana Zapata. I read The Wall of Winnipeg and Me then immediately bought every single MZ audiobook available. I’m not exaggerating. I had to stagger my MZ reading so that I wouldn’t burn myself out, but this one still remains on my ASAP list.

Goodreads | Amazon

Rhythm, Chord, & MalykhinTwenty-six-year-old Gaby Barreto might be a lot of things (loyal, sarcastic, one of the guys and a pain in the butt depending on which family member you ask), but dumb isn’t one of them. When her twin brother invites her to go on tour as his band’s merch girl, she isn’t exactly screaming at the top of her lungs with joy.

With no job opportunities pounding on her door, an ex-boyfriend she would still like to castrate, and no end in sight to moving out of her parents’ house in Dallas… it would be dumb to say no to the chance of a lifetime. Two bands, three continents, one tour. Spending the next ninety-plus days with three beloved idiots and eight complete strangers shouldn’t be a big deal, right?

If only the singer of the headlining band didn’t have tattoos… a great personality… a fantastic body… and if he wasn’t so funny….

Let’s be real: Gaby never had a chance against Sacha Malykhin.

Under Locke by Mariana Zapata

Again, this was purchased during my “OMG I MUST READ ALL THE MARIANA ZAPATA BOOKS EVER” binge. My sister recently finished this one and said it was likely her favorite of all MZ’s books. Super excited to dig into this one!

Goodreads | Amazon

Under LockeHe was my boss, my brother’s friend, a Widower, an ex-felon, and a man I’d seen casually with a handful of women. But he was everything that gripped me, both the good and the bad. Worst case scenario if things turned awkward between us, I could go somewhere else. I’d gotten over epic heartbreak before, one more wouldn’t kill me.

After moving to Austin following six months of unemployment back home, Iris Taylor knows she should be glad to have landed a job so quickly… even if the business is owned by a member of the same motorcycle club her estranged father used to belong to. Except Dex Locke might just be the biggest jerk she’s ever met. He’s rude, impatient and doesn’t know how to tell time.

And the last thing they ever expected was each other.

But it was either the strip club or the tattoo shop.

… she should have chosen the strip club.

Beginner’s Guide: Love and Other Chemical Reactions (Talking Nerdy #1) by Six de los Reyes

I’ve seen this book on a few lists recently and when I found out it was free on Kindle, I had to grab it!

Goodreads | Amazon

Beginner's Guide : Love and Other Chemical ReactionsFalling in love is a chemical reaction.

Just ask Kaya Rubio, twenty-five year-old Molecular Genetics graduate student and research assistant. Fed up with her spinster aunts’ relentless reminders and unsolicited advice regarding her Single Since Birth status, she designs a scientific, evidence-based methodology to find her a suitable partner in time for her cousin’s wedding. As any good scientist knows, any valid experimental design requires a negative control. Enter the most unsuitable candidate for a potential boyfriend: the messy, easygoing, café owner Nero Sison. Her null hypothesis? Going out with Nero would establish her baseline data without catalyzing the chemical reaction she seeks.

But when Kaya’s recorded results refuse to make sense, she is forced to come to the conclusion that there are some things in life that are simply, by nature, irrational and illogical. And that sometimes, chemistry doesn’t always happen inside a lab.

Readers and Writers Tampa Event Books

The following books are written by authors who will be attending this event with me next month. In an ideal world, I’d read at least one book by every single author in attendance, but alas, that is not the case. Instead, I grabbed a couple of books that happened to be free on Kindle. My goal is to finish them before the event.

NORMAL (Something More Book 1) by Danielle Pearl

I’m always interested to see how authors write about anxiety disorders since I grew up with a really bad panic disorder.

Goodreads | Amazon

NormalIt’s the kind of situation most people would dread. Starting at a new high school, in the middle of my senior year, in a new town, in a new state. I know no one. No one knows me. That’s what I’m counting on.

A year ago, Aurora “Rory” Pine was just a normal teenage girl – just as sweet and naive as the fairy tale princess she was named after.

But this isn’t a year ago.

Rory is broken, and now suffering from a debilitating anxiety disorder, wrought with precarious triggers, she moves across the country to escape the source of her troubles. Her plan is anonymity, but that’s easier said than achieved for the new girl having a panic episode outside of calculus. The worst part? There’s a witness – and a gorgeous one at that.

Sam is a walking trigger for Rory. Incredibly handsome, built like the star athlete he obviously is, and undoubtedly popular, Sam outwardly represents everything Rory despises about high school. But as the fates keep throwing them together, a connection sparks that neither ever expected, and certainly couldn’t ignore.

But Sam has issues too, and Rory’s past won’t just stay in the damned past. When friendship evolves into something deeper, can a girl utterly destroyed by the worst kind of betrayal and a boy battling demons of his own ever have a normal relationship? Is that even what they want?

Fallen (Chronicles Of The Fallen Book 1) by Julie Morgan

So, maybe I have a thing for angels and demons. I have yet to find a really good romance novel involving angels, but my hope is that this is one of them since I’ll have the opportunity to meet the author next month!

Goodreads | Amazon

NormalLisa Adams wants what every other woman wants: The perfect job. The perfect home. The perfect guy. When she receives the opportunity of a lifetime, Lisa has no idea what she’s actually signed up for. Her boss, who is tall, dark and incredibly sexy, starts making advances towards her and she’s having a hard time telling him no. Lisa begins seeing things that are scaring the Hell out of her. Nightmares are leaving her frightened.

Then there’s this new guy that’s come into her life. He brings a new light into the darkness that threatens to claim Lisa. He’s mysterious, heartwarming and kind. Not to mention the most beautiful man she’s ever met. But something with him seems to be off.

Faced with love, seduction, sacrifice and deceit, Lisa will find herself being pulled in two directions; one pursues her to claim her soul and the other will sacrifice everything to save her.
